Chapter 14: Visionary Thinking

Visionary thinking has been discussed in published psychological research and referred to as a trait called “Minority of One Thinking.” This means being able to imagine a solution, an innovation, or a possible outcome that solves a problem in a novel way. If you think about some science fiction movies, they illustrate the point really well. Remember Back To The Future—flying cars? Well, we’re there right?! Drones that can fly humans exist and are on the brink of disrupting the automobile industry. How did that happen? Someone had to imagine the idea, engineers had to innovate, and ta-da we’ve gone through several iterations of concept cars that fly, and now we actually have ones that do the job. Visionary thinking takes practice, and comes from an eclectic methodology that is often personalized to activate one’s creative mind. Using any number of these tools can promote your visionary thinking.

• VR that leads you through multi-perceptual experiences.

• Using AI as a thinking partner.

• Float tanking: This experience has an extraordinary way of invoking imaginative thinking through a mechanism of relaxation that liberates the part of the mind that is constantly chatting.

• Journaling specifically on this topic, and going deeper on each entry. • Therapeutically [professionally] supported psychedelic experiences.

• Visit a location that creates an experience of awe (a waterfall, the Grand Canyon, a butterfly garden).

Exercise:

Pick one or two of the techniques above and experiment with them.
